Ingenuity Transforming Canadian Infrastructure

Delivering Infrastructure That Connects and Elevates Communities Across Canada

Broad Expertise in Canada’s Infrastructure Landscape

At GFT, operating as GFT Canada ULC, we approach infrastructure as a catalyst for progress — enabling resilience, mobility, and sustainable growth across the country since 1989.

From our offices in Mississauga, Toronto, Vancouver, and Ottawa, GFT delivers integrated engineering design services nationwide, supporting public and private clients through every phase of infrastructure development. We bring local insight and national perspective to the full spectrum of Canada’s engineering and design challenges — from municipal road and water system design and upgrades to large-scale transportation infrastructure, transit electrification, and climate resilience.

Signature Projects — And What Comes Next

From planning major subway expansions in Toronto to improving safety on remote Northern Ontario highways, our projects reflect the scale and diversity of Canada’s infrastructure landscape. But our story doesn’t end there. As communities across the country modernize their transportation networks, strengthen local roads and bridges, and confront climate and water resources challenges, we’re expanding our focus to meet those evolving needs — partnering with municipalities, regional authorities, and provinces to deliver practical, resilient solutions of every size.

GFT has helped bring some of Canada’s most transformative infrastructure initiatives to life, such as:

  • This was the project that launched our work in Canada. Since 1989, our collaboration with the TTC has laid the foundation for decades of nationwide transit planning and delivery.

  • We led the largest environmental assessment in GO Transit’s 50-year history, paving the way for a cleaner, electrified commuter rail network. Our role supported a major shift toward sustainable transit — applying deep technical experience across track, facilities, and environmental disciplines.

  • We’re helping shape the future of Toronto’s transit system through ongoing support for subway expansion and modernization. From planning to delivery, our team integrates with TTC staff to advance mobility and keep projects moving.

The Scarborough Subway Extension (SSE) and Yonge North Subway Extension (YNSE) projects reflect the region’s need for modern, multi-modal transportation solutions for an area expected to grow from a population of 6.5 million to 10 million by 2045.

  • From high-capacity 400-series corridors to vital routes in Ontario’s remote north, we proudly partner with MTO to deliver smart, resilient solutions that strengthen and sustain the province’s highway network.

  • Partnering with municipalities across Ontario, we deliver forward-thinking engineering solutions, from creating vibrant, people-focused public spaces and active transportation networks to upgrading essential utilities that support growing, future-ready communities.

  • We’re proud to contribute to one of Toronto’s most high-profile urban infrastructure programs. Our work supports the rehabilitation of this critical corridor while helping reshape how the city connects with its waterfront.

  • In British Columbia, we’ve supported TransLink’s system improvements to help keep regional transit reliable, connected, and prepared for future growth.

  • We partnered with VIA Rail to modernize its Toronto and Montreal maintenance centers in support of the new bi-directional trainsets now operating along the corridor. As technical advisor for this $300 million capital program, we led strategic planning, procurement, permitting, and construction coordination — ensuring the facilities could accommodate the future fleet without disrupting daily operations. The upgrades position VIA Rail’s network for long-term performance, flexibility, and efficiency.

  • We’re supporting Ontario Northland Transportation Commission’s (ONTC’s) effort to reinstate passenger rail service between Toronto and Northeastern Ontario. Our team is providing strategic advisory services spanning program management, rail infrastructure, environmental planning, and community engagement. With work that includes cost estimating, station planning, and integration of both passenger and freight needs, we’re helping ONTC restore a vital connection for the region’s residents and communities.

  • We help accelerate progress on key transit projects by guiding clients through the TRPAP process efficiently and thoughtfully. Our vast TRPAP experience includes assessments for corridor upgrades, utility relocations, new rail corridors, new track infrastructure, new maintenance facilities, transit stations, electrification, and supporting infrastructure.

  • During design and construction, we lead multi-disciplinary teams to ensure compliance with environmental contract specifications and regulatory requirements as part of mitigating impacts on the physical environment and surrounding community.
