A Conversation With David:

What inspired you to pursue a career in architecture, and what continues to motivate you today?

I’ve always been fascinated by the way the built environment shapes the way people live and work. Architecture offered a balance of creative thinking and problem solving that felt like a natural fit. What continues to motivate me today is knowing that our work, particularly on federal projects, supports mission-critical operations and the people who serve our country.

What led you to GFT, and how has your role evolved since joining the team?

I was drawn to GFT because of its reputation for delivering complex projects with precision, accountability, and integrity. Since joining the firm, my role has grown from a primary focus on design to leading projects from planning through delivery. Today, I serve as both a project manager and architect, helping align technical requirements, regulatory compliance, and client priorities while maintaining a strong design focus.

What do you enjoy most about working on federal infrastructure projects?

Federal infrastructure projects offer a strong sense of purpose. Every decision directly affects safety, resilience, and mission readiness, making the work especially meaningful. Supporting national security means creating environments where service members and federal teams can operate safely and effectively.

These projects also involve strict compliance requirements, multiple stakeholders, and evolving mission needs within demanding schedules. I navigate this complexity through clear communication, proactive risk management, and close collaboration, building strong relationships, identifying issues early, and guiding decisions that align regulatory requirements with operational goals.

“I have worked with David for more than a decade and have seen his growth as a leader firsthand. When it was time for our team to grow, I personally asked him to join because I respect his judgment and his character. David is a trusted project leader who understands both the technical demands and the human impact of federal infrastructure. His ability to guide complex projects from planning through delivery while maintaining a strong design focus sets him apart.”

Outside of architecture, what hobbies or routines help you recharge?

Spending time outdoors is one of the best ways for me to recharge. I enjoy hiking, camping, and exploring new places. My wife and I are working toward a goal of visiting as many national parks as possible. We have visited 11 so far.

What’s a fun fact about you that your colleagues may not know?

I have a Portuguese water dog named Cherry who is a year and a half old. We take training classes together, which keeps her busy and gives us quality time together. She has a lot of energy and enjoys learning new things.

What gets you up in the morning and excited to start your day?

Coffee! I enjoy experimenting with different brewing methods and have built quite a collection of brewers and accessories at home.
