A Conversation With Holly:

Can you share a bit about your background at GFT and the path that led you to focus on facility assessments and asset inventory services?

I started at GFT as an intern in 2003, working with facility engineers in hospital environments, primarily at New York Presbyterian campuses, where I helped identify and track life safety assets like fire doors and emergency lighting. That experience introduced me to asset management early in my career.

From there, I moved into data coordination for the New York City Office of Management and Budget, helping connect asset collection, condition assessments, and capital planning. Over the years, I moved into project management and now serve as a project principal, helping clients understand what they have so they can plan for the future.

Can you describe your role and what your day-to-day looks like, including the types of challenges you help clients solve?

Every day is different depending on the project. I might be in the field with inspectors, working with site teams, or meeting with clients to talk about their long-term needs.

A big part of my role is making sure the data we collect reflects what’s actually happening in the field. We help clients understand what assets they have, what conditions they’re in, and where there may be gaps, so they have reliable information to work from.

How do facility assessments and asset inventory services support clients in making informed decisions and long-term planning?

Facility assessments and asset inventories give clients a better understanding of what assets they have and how those assets are performing. Once they have that information, it’s much easier to plan ahead instead of reacting when something breaks or needs immediate attention.

Depending on the project, we also work with other members of GFT’s asset management team to help clients prioritize projects, plan investments, and make the most of their available resources.

“Holly has a unique ability to connect field observations, asset data, and client goals into a clear path forward. Her deep understanding of facility assessments, combined with her collaborative approach, helps clients make informed decisions with confidence.”

What do you find most meaningful or motivating about this work?

What I find most meaningful is working with the people who maintain these facilities every day. I enjoy seeing how better information makes their jobs easier and helps them plan with more confidence. Seeing that difference firsthand is incredibly rewarding.

Outside of work, what’s something colleagues might be surprised to learn about you?

I went to culinary school at night while working full-time at GFT in 2012, which was a great way to challenge myself in a totally different field. What stuck with me most was how structured environments can still encourage creativity. That is something I try to bring to our team by fostering new ideas while keeping our work consistent and reliable for clients.

What’s your favorite way to unwind after a busy day?

Staying active is my favorite way to unwind. I spend an hour on the stair mill every day, and my motto is, “Turn it on and don’t get off.” It helps me reset mentally and gives me the discipline to show up at my best, both at work and at home.
