A Conversation With Tiffany:

Tell us about your water industry experience.

Over the years, I’ve led a $20 million task for the City of Baltimore to reduce inflow and infiltration in its collection system and contributed to the program management team for Miami-Dade County’s $2 billion consent decree program aimed at enhancing wastewater system reliability and reducing sanitary sewer overflows.

I began my career nearly 20 years ago with a small Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) firm, where I spent five formative years developing a strong foundation in water and sewer pipeline design, condition assessment, and rehabilitation. That experience highlighted the value of DBE participation, and I’ve since become an advocate for integrating DBE firms into our projects.

You’re engaged in water and wastewater projects across the U.S. and Canada. Tell us about your role at GFT.

I lead the design and management of water and wastewater projects, providing QA/QC oversight, supporting proposals, and participating in project interviews. I’ve worked on numerous sanitary sewer, urban utility, and pipeline projects, conducting detailed condition assessments, CCTV reviews, and delivering targeted, cost-effective rehabilitation strategies based on real-world field conditions.

What’s the most interesting project you’re working on?

I am currently designing a 102-inch pressure sewer in a dense urban environment. The existing 96- to 102-inch main has experienced multiple failures, with part of the alignment running beneath an active railyard. Following a comprehensive evaluation comparing rehabilitation versus a new alignment, the new alignment was determined to be the most effective and reliable long-term solution.

“Clients have come to depend on Tiffany’s expert pipeline cleaning, condition assessment, and emergency response expertise. Given her diverse experience and NASSCO certification across several disciplines, she provides invaluable recommendations for rehabilitation design.”

GFT Vice President

You’re heavily engaged in the water industry in addition to your project work. Tell us more.

Lifelong learning and professional certifications are essential to staying at the forefront of technology and industry best practices so we can deliver exceptional service to our clients. My National Association of Sewer Service Companies (NASSCO) certifications are especially important in supporting small and large diameter pipeline rehabilitation work, where accurate assessment and informed decision making are critical.

I’m also an Envision Sustainability Professional and an active member of the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) and the American Water Works Association (AWWA). I’m also a proud graduate of both the ACEC Maryland Leadership Program and Leadership Baltimore County. I believe in continuous growth and encourage others to keep their skills sharp and learn something new every day.

What brought you to GFT, and what is it about the firm that makes you want to stay?

While working at the DBE firm as a subconsultant to GFT (now GFT), I was able to establish a great working relationship and gain insight into this firm’s culture. I not only enjoyed working with the people, but I saw growth opportunities within the company, and that’s been true the past 12+ years!

When did you realize you wanted to work in the water/wastewater industry?

In my senior year at Morgan State University, I interned at a small firm in its water division. The exposure to water engineering and the excellent advice I received from various colleagues and mentors left me certain that this was the field for me.

What do you love to do outside of work?

I love travelling, playing fantasy football, and DIY home improvement projects. I spend every moment I can with my son, Anthony, and my recently retired mom.
