The North Carolina Turnpike Authority’s (NCTA) Complete 540 project has ranked No. 1 on Roads & Bridges’ Top 10 Roads projects for 2024. This prestigious accolade highlights the most innovative and impactful roadway projects of the year, celebrating achievements that enhance infrastructure and improve community connectivity.
The Complete 540 project is a transformative solution to the growing transportation needs in southeastern Wake County, North Carolina, seamlessly extending the Triangle Expressway to complete the 540 Outer Loop. Our firm designed a pivotal 4.6-mile segment in Phase 1, from the N.C. 55 Bypass to east of Pierce Olive Road (R-2721A). The design-build approach facilitated rapid project completion for the new six-lane, limited-access highway, which features a diverging diamond interchange, numerous structures, extensive noise barriers, and aesthetic enhancements. The project stands as a model of sustainability, innovation, and effective communication.
