Together with our joint venture partner GPI, we’re honored to be one of three construction management and inspection services teams selected for this vital bridge reconstruction project — one of the most critical infrastructure projects in Maryland’s history.

The Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse on March 26, 2024, was a devastating event for the families impacted, the Baltimore metropolitan area, and the entire transportation industry. In the wake of the tragedy, agencies at every level came together to support the Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) in recovery efforts. GFT was honored to play a role in the initial salvage and recovery operations, working alongside federal, state, and local partners to clear 50,000 tons of steel and concrete from the Patapsco River.

After months of coordinated recovery, the focus now shifts to designing and constructing a replacement bridge that will restore this critical link along the I-695 Baltimore Beltway and support the regional economy. The GPI-GFT joint venture is proud to be selected for one of the three construction management and inspection services contracts supporting the Francis Scott Key Bridge Rebuild project.

“This project represents a shared commitment to safety, quality, and resilience. Together with our joint venture partner GPI and our subconsultants — including RMA Group, RS&H, and all of our partners — we are honored to support MDTA in delivering a new bridge that will serve Maryland for generations to come,” said Dave Ferrara, CCM, vice president, construction services.

The bridge replacement design concept, unveiled on Feb. 4, 2025, by Governor Wes Moore, will be Maryland’s first highway cable-stayed bridge. Expected to last 100 years, the two-mile-long bridge will set a new standard for durability and safety.

As bridge reconstruction moves forward, GFT is committed to delivering innovative solutions, ensuring safety, and fostering collaboration to build a bridge that will stand as a symbol of resilience and progress for Maryland’s future.
