GFT Announces Francis Cann as Power Market Sector Leader

Cann to Oversee Sales and Marketing for the Power Business Group

GFT is excited to announce the appointment of Francis Cann as the new power market sector leader, reinforcing the firm’s commitment to helping utility clients modernize infrastructure, increase grid resilience, and deliver reliable, cost-effective power to their communities.

With more than 40 years of experience in the power sector, Cann brings deep expertise in both power delivery and generation, along with a strong track record of solving complex challenges for electric utilities and large-scale energy providers. In this role, he will focus on helping clients navigate evolving energy demands, plan and deliver capital programs, and meet regulatory and sustainability goals.

“We are thrilled to welcome Francis Cann to our team,” said Joseph Deery, PE, chief growth officer at GFT. “His technical insight, leadership experience, and deep understanding of the power industry will help our clients deliver critical projects faster, more efficiently, and with long-term value in mind.”

Most recently, he helped grow a power and energy business line from $2 million to over $200 million in revenue — securing more than 40 contracts. He also directed a $1.6 billion three-state transmission and distribution program and successfully completed a $50 million overhaul of a 600-MW turbine generator on schedule and under budget.

“I’m honored to join GFT at a time when the power industry is undergoing rapid transformation,” Cann said. “Our clients are leading that transformation, and I look forward to partnering with them to deliver the infrastructure, innovation, and reliability their communities depend on.”

Cann holds a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from Manhattan College and has completed MBA program coursework at Florida Institute of Technology. Additionally, he has undergone PMP Certification exam training and a range of leadership development programs.
