GFT Selected to Lead Program Management for Prince William Water’s Wastewater Infrastructure Upgrade

New Featherstone Pump Station and Force Main Will Strengthen Resilience, Increase Capacity, and Support a Growing Community

Delivering Essential Infrastructure

Prince William Water has competitively selected GFT to serve as owner’s consultant for the replacement of the Featherstone Sewage Pumping Station and force main in Woodbridge, Virginia. This project will be delivered using a progressive design-build method, chosen to deliver the complex project quickly.

As owner’s consultant, GFT will support Prince William Water through procurement, design, and construction.

Our team will help in the selection of the design-build team, perform technical reviews, support risk management, and validate cost and schedule. We will also provide construction management and inspection services, coordinate stakeholders, support permitting, and manage project information through a dedicated project management information system.

By leveraging a progressive design-build approach, the project team can enhance collaboration, manage risk more effectively, deliver the project on schedule, and provide a solution that balances performance, cost, and long-term value.

A Shared Commitment to Community Impact

“This project is about more than replacing infrastructure. It’s about supporting Prince William Water to deliver reliable, resilient service to a growing community,” said Eddie Aplerh-Doku, PE, DBIA, ENV SP, the project’s program manager and GFT’s national water program management director. “By working closely with the owner and design-builder, we can support smart decisions early, manage risk proactively, and help bring a solution to life that will serve the region for decades.”

Expanding Capacity to Support Growth

The project will replace a nearly 50-year-old pump station with a new facility designed to increase capacity from 25 million gallons per day (MGD) to approximately 43 MGD. The project also includes designing a 1.5-mile, 30-inch force main that will convey wastewater to the H.L. Mooney Advanced Water Reclamation Facility for treatment.

The existing pump station presents several challenges, including its location within a flood-prone area and its age. The new facility will be built in consideration of the floodplain and designed with climate change in mind.
