Greg Thompson Named Chief Technology Officer at GFT
Will Drive Innovation and Digital Transformation
GFT is pleased to welcome Greg Thompson as Chief Technology Officer (CTO). With more than 25 years of experience leading digital innovation across global firms like AECOM, Amazon Web Services, and Schneider Electric, Thompson will lead GFT’s enterprise-wide digital technology strategy, innovation, and transformation initiatives.
As CTO, Thompson reports directly to the chief executive officer (CEO) and will play a central role in shaping GFT’s future through the modernization of enterprise IT, cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence/machine learning integration (AI/ML), and the development of next-generation data and analytics capabilities. His appointment marks a pivotal step forward in GFT’s strategy to deliver smarter, scalable, and more agile infrastructure solutions across the transportation, power, water, and buildings sectors.

“Our industry is evolving rapidly, and Greg brings an unmatched depth of experience in cloud strategies and emerging technology,” said Mike Orth, GFT’s CEO. “His vision and expertise will help establish and execute a digital transformation strategy that enables GFT to deliver bold, market-focused solutions that elevate communities and deliver an improved customer experience.”
Thompson joins GFT from AECOM, where he served as corporate vice president, digital, spearheading customer-facing transformation efforts and digital consulting initiatives across global business lines. Prior to that, he led global innovation programs at AWS, creating smart venue and utility solutions that leveraged cloud and edge computing, AI/ML, and the Internet of Things (IoT). At Schneider Electric, Thompson held multiple global leadership roles, leading product strategy and launching industry-leading digital platforms.
“GFT’s commitment to ingenuity and exceptional service mirrors my own passion for identifying forward-thinking solutions that meet our clients where they are today and need to be tomorrow,” said Thompson. “I’m excited for the opportunity to lead a high-performing technology organization, dedicated to a culture of innovation, agility, and digital transformation.”
Thompson holds a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering from the University of Kentucky and is a certified AWS Cloud Practitioner. He also holds several patents in utility monitoring and digital integration.
As GFT continues to shape the Infrastructure of Life, Thompson’s leadership will ensure the firm remains at the forefront of digital innovation, driving value for clients and communities across North America.
