The Journal of Dam Safety, published by the Association of State Dam Safety Officials (ASDSO), spotlighted the Lake Williams Dam Rehabilitation project, recipient of the ASDSO 2024 National Rehabilitation Project of the Year, in its most recent issue.

Located in York, Pennsylvania, this transformative project completed for The York Water Company exemplifies how modern engineering can revitalize historical infrastructure. Integrating innovation with preservation, the rehabilitation addressed critical safety, functionality, and environmental challenges.

The project enhanced the resilience of the 100+-year-old earthen embankment dam and increased its spillway discharge capacity, enabling it to safely pass the probable maximum flood. The project also enhanced ecological habitats by raising the pool elevation and creating wildlife habitat islands. Completed on an expedited schedule, the project strengthens the area’s long-term water supply while delivering environmental and economic benefits to the region.
