In The News: Brent Spence Bridge Corridor Project Breaks Ground
Major Transformation Investment Advances Mobility, Safety, and Freight Reliability
State and federal leaders recently broke ground on the Brent Spence Bridge Corridor Project, marking a major milestone for one of the region’s most significant transportation investments. The multi-billion-dollar effort will improve safety, reduce congestion, and modernize critical interstate infrastructure along a vital link between Ohio and Kentucky. The project includes construction of a new companion bridge to the existing Brent Spence Bridge and significant improvements to I-71 and I-75 to support regional and national mobility.
GFT is supporting the Ohio portion of the project as part of the Quality Assurance Management (QAM) team. Acting as an extension of the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) staff, GFT reviews design-build submittals for compliance with contract requirements, environmental commitments, and state standards across roadway, drainage, structures, lighting, intelligent transportation systems, and related disciplines. The team’s role continues through construction, supporting requests for information, technical reviews, change orders, and shop drawings, and concludes with final review of the design-build team’s as-built documents to confirm they meet ODOT’s computer-aided drafting and design standards.
“This project sets a new bar for scale and complexity in the region,” said Allen Biehl, PE, GFT’s Ohio area leader and deputy project manager of the QAM team. “Our role helps ODOT manage that complexity by confirming work meets contract requirements and long-term performance expectations for the community. We are proud to support a project with this level of impact for Ohio.”
