Gate Lounge of the Future Design at DFW Airport
Client: Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW)
Our Role: Architectural Design

Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) sought to reimagine the traditional airport gate area to better support evolving passenger expectations. Conventional gate lounges often rely on static seating, limited digital engagement, and fixed layouts, offering little flexibility to respond to changing operational needs or improve the passenger experience.
At the same time, the airport needed a way to explore new ideas and emerging technologies without committing prematurely to fixed solutions. The challenge was not only to envision a more engaging gate experience, but to create a forward-looking concept that could test possibilities, spark dialogue, and help stakeholders evaluate how design, technology, and passenger behavior might intersect in the future.
Our team provided architectural design services for the 12,000-square-foot Gate Lounge of the Future concept, applying a human-centered design approach to rethink how passengers experience time, space, and movement at the gate. The concept replaces traditional seating and static information displays with flexible seating configurations, interactive digital features, and a central pavilion that supports intuitive passenger flow and wayfinding while accommodating evolving operational and security requirements.
The Gate Lounge of the Future was guided by five core design principles developed in collaboration with DFW stakeholders that shaped the concept. These principles focus on reducing passenger stress, improving arrivals and boarding efficiency, accommodating diverse seating and mobility needs, introducing moments of delight, and integrating revenue-generating opportunities that reinforce the DFW identity.
These principles are expressed through integrated digital and architectural elements that deliver real-time operational information alongside curated content inspired by the Dallas-Fort Worth region and international destinations. By thoughtfully integrating technology, architecture, and amenities, the design creates a more adaptable, welcoming environment that responds to diverse passenger needs and seamlessly connects the gate lounge to the surrounding terminal.
The result is a concept that balances innovation with flexibility, offering a scalable framework and adaptable model that can evolve alongside passenger needs, technology, and airport operations.
