Military Maintenance Facility for the Maryland Army National Guard
Client: Maryland Army National Guard
Our Role: Architecture, Site/Civil, Structural

The Maryland Army National Guard required a mission-critical maintenance facility capable of supporting a wide range of repair and logistics functions essential to operational readiness. The complex needed to accommodate heavy vehicle maintenance, specialized equipment repair, and administrative operations while supporting safe working environments and efficient operational flow within the State Military Reservation.
GFT supported the design of the Combined Support Maintenance Shop (CSMS), a coordinated campus constructed on a previously undeveloped site to support sustainment maintenance for military equipment and tactical vehicles. The CSMS supports vehicle repairs, administrative functions, training areas, and state-level maintenance management operations, including the surface maintenance office and the sustainment automation systems management office.
The design balances industrial maintenance facility operations with the operational needs of military personnel, organizing repair environments, technical spaces, and support areas to enable efficient workflows, clear circulation, and safe equipment handling across the facility.
The project also incorporates sustainable design strategies that enhance long-term performance and environmental stewardship, including natural stormwater management, energy-efficient building systems, heat island reduction measures, durable low-emitting materials, and electric vehicle charging infrastructure.
